My little Yule Boy

In all the madness, I negleted to take construction pictures. My apologies. This is the final product for my son's Winter portrait outfit. I made the vest from the Simplicity 1745 pattern from Halloween. The shirt and pants are from Simplicity 4760. This was an interesting project simply because making men's/boy's clothing always through me a bit. Construction a pair of men's slacks and a pair of women's slacks are two very different processes!

Fancy!

Bring on the cold! I finished my jacket today after some confusion with the lining,(my fault for taking marking shortcuts) I'm happy with the turn out.

Ohhh the POP!

I'm doing my jacket before anything else because, well it's cold and I don't like wearing my work jacket outside of work. I'm using a pattern for a flared peacoat that I've had my eye on for a few years (Simplicity D0550).

The best part about it is, I can chose my own colors! I went with a black corduroy with a branded paisley print. And just got a bit of flair, a purple satin for the lining, and rhinestone toggle buttons.

The holidays are in full swing!

The weather in South Carolina is always mercurial this time of year and it reeks havoc on my light bill.  Mostly because the kids will NOT leave my thermostat alone.  A couple hours of my time and problem (hopefully) solved with a couple of blankets!

After Thanksgiving also means Christmas
Planning. On my end that translates to "make sure mom gets decent pictures of the children". Two dresses, a jacket, a cloak and a boys suit done in a month? I got this! 

An aside on details

In a project like this, the details make the look. A lot of the pieces are custom made. The covered buttons, the fan, the attifet and the snood were all hand made by me. I purchased jewlery from the Etsy shop of RecycledRockstah to round out the look.

The Lady in blue.

The drop sleeves were easier than I thought they were going to be. If I ever make this again, I will attach the bodice to the skirt before I attach the sleeves. It was a bit tricky getting everything into the machine properly. I did alter the back by making it a lace up and button closure instead of a zipper to make it a bit more time period appropriate.

The Lady

My daughter chose blue satin and brocade for her dress. She wanted true drop sleeves so we're using view B of McCall's 5731.

From the bottom up

I altered the pattern a bit to tone down the copious lace. I wanted to use it more as an accent than a show piece. Especially since I went all the way with the jewelry.

The Dame

We're getting down to the nitty gritty!!

This pattern has a LOT of pieces. The skirt alone has 18 panels. I'm using a red and black brocade and a black broadcloth for the accent pieces.

Early Undergarments

For the adult dress, I'm making another chemise, bloomers and underbust corset using the same pattern from the previous post. On another note, I now know why corsets cost so much! This is by far the most complicated piece I've ever made!

Came together quickly!

Surprisingly, the shift only took a day! This is why I love Simplicity's patterns. They are usually really easy to follow!  The hoops were store bought.

RenFaire Time!

This is the big one! I'm going to have to put the burn in this one. Three Elizabethan outfits in one month!!!

I got this!

First up, undergarments. I'm making a shift for my daughter and the corset shift and bloomers for myself. Unfortunately, there's a metric ton of gathering involved so it's a bit of a pain.  The pattern I'm using is Simplicity 2890 from the Museum Curator Collection.

After about a bazillion glue burns

I finally finished the Freddy Head. I also finished the rest of the body using (what feels like) all the yellow felt in the country.

The finished looks for both costumes!

Gold felt galore!

This pattern is so much easier in a smaller size! The rest of the costume will be the same goldenrod yellow. I will be using a pants pattern from Mellysews.com, a simple glove pattern (modified to give the cartoon four finger look) and the Freddy head.

Vest finished

The vest is done and I'm (finally) putting everything together. I'm on the process of cutting The white bands for the sleeves, which will just be glued on. The tutu/petticoat is a simple tulle number (follow this great tutorial here). I, of course, ran out of tulle so I'll take another photo when it's complete. Meanwhile, on to FREDDY!!

New people ROCK!

A friend of mine had her baby shower recently stop I took a couple days make teeny tiny baby things! I crocheted a dress and booties and made a blanket in mom's favorite colors.

Got caught up in summer

But I'm back again. Between work and school starting, I'm going to have to put the burn in these final few costumes meanwhile, I threw this together in less than an hour. I'm trying to streamline sewing space and little things count. I made this thread catcher based off of a Merriment Design pattern that can be found here.

Dapper Creepy Puppet Girls

Need vests!  This is made from the same material as the dress and made with Simplicity Pattern 1745. This is one of the more simple patterns (only 3 pieces!) and if I wasn't so, well...me, I could finish this piece in 2 hrs or less.

Skirt and bodice finishing

I don't get the full effect of the skirt until I finish the petticoat, but so far, I'm happy with my progress. A tip for pleats: pin, pin and pin some more! When in doubt, press AND pin!

Dress Top

I've gotten the bodice section of the dress almost finished. The sleeves were a bit of a chore, but then again, sleeves usually are.

The Marionette

So.much.black.broadcloth!

This costume will also be my first foray into petticoats. This will save me a lot of aggravation with period costumes if I can pull this off.

Finished Steampunk Red

The cloak took no time at all! I LOVE the finished product!

Next item on the table is the Genderbent Marionette from Five Nights At Freddys!

The final piece

For the cloak, I actually splurged a little and got some real velvet  since this will also be the cloak for my Dame Nicole costume for the RenFaire and I don't need a lot. The pattern came from Anneorshine's YouTube channel and can be found here.

P.S. don't you love my new table? Gift from my love! No more back cramps!

✅Part 2 done!✅

I used hook and eye enclosures instead of buttons since the closure will be under a corset and that just sounds all kinds of uncomfortable. It.flows well with the blouse and overall, I'm happy with the results. Next, the cape!

Coming along nicely

With the school year winding down and kids activities going into off season, I have time to breath and sew. As a result, this piece is moving at a high speed. I'm modifying McCall's 6818 for the split overdress. I've managed to get this far after about 8 hours (total) sewing time. 3 or 4 more hours should do it, then on to the cape.
