Dress Top

I've gotten the bodice section of the dress almost finished. The sleeves were a bit of a chore, but then again, sleeves usually are.

The Marionette

So.much.black.broadcloth!

This costume will also be my first foray into petticoats. This will save me a lot of aggravation with period costumes if I can pull this off.

Finished Steampunk Red

The cloak took no time at all! I LOVE the finished product!

Next item on the table is the Genderbent Marionette from Five Nights At Freddys!

The final piece

For the cloak, I actually splurged a little and got some real velvet  since this will also be the cloak for my Dame Nicole costume for the RenFaire and I don't need a lot. The pattern came from Anneorshine's YouTube channel and can be found here.

P.S. don't you love my new table? Gift from my love! No more back cramps!

✅Part 2 done!✅

I used hook and eye enclosures instead of buttons since the closure will be under a corset and that just sounds all kinds of uncomfortable. It.flows well with the blouse and overall, I'm happy with the results. Next, the cape!

Coming along nicely

With the school year winding down and kids activities going into off season, I have time to breath and sew. As a result, this piece is moving at a high speed. I'm modifying McCall's 6818 for the split overdress. I've managed to get this far after about 8 hours (total) sewing time. 3 or 4 more hours should do it, then on to the cape.

Measuring, Tracing, Cutting, Repeat

In every hobby, no matter how much you love it, there's an aspect you  can't stand. For me, that's the tracing and cutting of the fabric. There are no short cuts allowed here. One wrong cut, one inch off, and you will mess up the entire piece. Measure twice, cut once, is extremely important in dressmaking. If I could hire someone for just this part, I'd be happy as a lark!

✅ Part One Done!✅

I got the shirt part of the Steampunk Red Costume finished. Hopefully, the skirt and cape won't be as difficult as this "easy sew" shirt! Best part is, after Halloween, I'll still have a nice tailored button down to wear.

There comes a point in every costume maker's life

Where you start to wonder if it would Be been better for your sanity to just buy it. I decided to start with the Red Riding Hood costume which consists of a blouse, overskirt and purchased corset. This blouse is supposed to be easy! Sheesh. It's finally coming together though. Then on to the overskirt.

From the bottom up

I altered the pattern a bit to tone down the copious lace. I wanted to use it more as an accent than a show piece. Especially since I went a...
