History has it's eyes on you...

My daughter is currently obsessed with the Broadway musical "Hamilton", specifically the titular character as played by  Lin-Manuel Miranda. As a result, she's begged me to make her a (not so historically accurate) Revolutionary War officer's uniform.I'm using the Simplicity 0527 pattern from the pirate costume as a baseline. I'm changing the cuffs pod the jacket and the shape of the vest. I'm also making a cravat.

Hippity Hoppity!

Easter is right around the corner and I'm putting together our annual matching outfits. I'm making my son a simple button down and slacks (I'm getting a lot of mileage out of Simplicity 4760. My daughter is still on her 50s A line kick so shes getting a spring dress and redingote (a sheer overdress) using Simplicity 8252 (1950s vintage pattern). I will be in a classic A line using Vogue 1425.

I didnt take many pictures of the process for the button down and slacks since it's the same pattern I used for the Yule outfit. The one thing i did differently is i added the pockets and some springtime embroidery.
This dress was so much easier than the Yule dress. The lines are cleaner and the gathering is minimal. I love the way gathering looks, I just don't care for the process.

The crinkle organza was tricky to work with. I had to weight it done several times during the cutting because it's so airy. One wrong move and away it floats.

I am happy with the finished look, as is my daughter. She decided she likes it better without the crinoline and I embroidered a tiny Easter egg by request.

My dress is coming together nicely so far. The mid-weight satin is holding up very well, even though my basting stitches make it pucker a bit.

The pattern calls for scalloped lace but I couldn't find any I liked. I just got a lace in the color I liked with an agreeable pattern and cut around the scrolling. I hit the edges with some fray stop to make sure it doesn't unravel.

This dress also calls for a net underskirt. I like working with net because it's very forgiving. I always get a bit more than I need so I can just cut out the basic shape and then go back and add details.
I added a sash since not having an hourglass shape put the waistline in an odd space on me. I'm very happy about the final result.

Happy Easter!

From the bottom up

I altered the pattern a bit to tone down the copious lace. I wanted to use it more as an accent than a show piece. Especially since I went a...
