Renaissance Time!

I ADORE this time of year. It means I can get started on my RenFaire costumes. We're doing a twofer this year. One as royalty and the next as common folk. I'm doing my son's looks first because he's the one most likely to grow over the summer and I want to make sure I have time to alter later, if necessary. On top of the Klien family(The Dame, Lady and little Sir), we're going to be the Widow Merchant's family. I've developed a fascination with the 1600s middle class look so I thought I'd give that a try.

I had to forgo taking pics of the making of the Venetians (pants) because my son is going out of town and I needed to get them done quickly. The construction is very simple and similar to modern pants. I hand made the buttons but instead of going for historically accurate on the pants, I just put the buttons on the outside of the "fly" and used Velcro so we don't have any accidents while we're running around the faire.
The finished outfit.

From the bottom up

I altered the pattern a bit to tone down the copious lace. I wanted to use it more as an accent than a show piece. Especially since I went a...
