I see London, I see France!

I'm going to make the proper undergarments this year. Last year was the wrong century (oops!) which is why the dress ended up super uncomfortable by the end of the day. I'm making a shift, corset, New bum roll and farthingale(hoop skirt). I'm using Simplicity 262101 to help me along.



The Shift
Looks like a hospital gown at this stage! 

I added some Elizabethan era blackwork (purchased here) just for pop and a bit of lace at the cuffs. Although it seem like a lot of work for something that can't be seen, it was a documented occurrence.




The Effigy Corset

The next step is the effigy corset. As I said in my last undergarment project, corsets.are.HARD! I had about a yard and a half of the prettiest jacquard. I lined with cotton canvas for support. 

Straight lines are hard!





Finally, the bum roll and farthingale



The pieces are a lot like a basic skirt. Triangles and rectangles. The difficult parts was adding the twill tape and boning. It's a bit unwieldy to feed through the machine when your doing the middle pieces.
